Privacy Policy
Sillok Today (“the Service”) takes care with its users’ personal information and collects, uses and stores it as set out below, in accordance with the Personal Information Protection Act of the Republic of Korea.
This English version is a translation provided for convenience. If it differs from the Korean version, the Korean version applies.
1. Why we collect personal information
- To identify members, keep them signed in and manage their accounts
- To sync bookmarks, reading position and reading history across devices
- To provide participation features such as comments and likes, and to show who wrote them
- To prevent misuse, handle reports of errors and mistranslations, and answer enquiries
- To improve the Service by analysing usage statistics
We do not use the personal information we collect for any other purpose, and we do not use it to send marketing messages.
2. What we collect
When you sign up or sign in (required)
- Email address and password (stored in encrypted form)
- If you sign up with a Google account: email address and profile name
- Display name (nickname)
Information created or collected as you use the Service
- Bookmarks, entries you have read, recent visits and total reading time
- The content of your comments and replies, and your likes and reactions
- Access logs and error records kept to keep the Service stable
We do not collect unique identifiers such as resident registration numbers, and we do not collect information from children under 14.
3. How long we keep it
- Member information (email, nickname, reading history and so on): kept until you delete your account, and destroyed immediately when you do.
- Comments you wrote: deleted together with your account. Where other users have replied to a comment, the comment may remain with the author’s details removed (anonymised).
- Access logs and error records: kept for up to one year from collection, then destroyed.
- Where a law requires us to keep information, we keep it for that period (for example, access records for three months under the Protection of Communications Secrets Act).
4. Your right to refuse consent, and what happens if you do
You may refuse to consent to the collection and use of your personal information. If you do not consent to the required items, however, you cannot sign up and the following features will not be available to you.
- Syncing bookmarks and reading position across devices
- Writing comments and replies, and giving likes and reactions
- Viewing your reading history and total reading time in your profile
Even without consenting, you can still read the Records without signing in. You may also withdraw your consent at any time by deleting your account from your profile, in which case your personal information is destroyed as described in section 3.
5. Processing and storage by third parties
To run reliably, the Service uses cloud infrastructure (database, sign-in and hosting), and user information is stored in encrypted form on that infrastructure’s servers. These providers may not use personal information beyond the scope of the work entrusted to them.
6. Your rights
You may at any time ask to view, correct or delete your personal information, or ask us to stop processing it. From the profile screen in the Service you can change your display name, edit or delete your comments, and delete your account yourself.
7. Contact
